Flora’s Coffee Cake

Topping Ingredients
1/2 cup almonds or pecans(I use almonds)
1 cup brown sugar packed
1 tsp cinnamon
1tbsp cocoa
6oz of chocolate chips

Method
In the processor process nuts with brown sugar,cinnamon and cocoa until nuts are finely chopped, about 6 – 8 on/off turns
Transfer to small bowl and add chocolate chips

Batter Ingredients
6 tbsp butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup sour cream or yogurt( I use sour cream)
1  cup flour
1  tsp baking powder

Method
Process butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla for 2 minutes, (scrape down bowl)  dissolve baking soda in sour cream and add to batter and process for 3 seconds.  Add flour and baking powder.  Process with 4 quick on/off turns just until flour disappears.  Pour some batter into a greased and floured 9” square baking pan( I use a round bunt pan) sprinkle the topping.  Repeat with remaining batter and topping
Bake 350 for 40-45 minutes

If you use a bundt pan then you have to start with the topping then batter then topping then batter, cause you end up turning the cake upside down.
