Spring is here and the town is buzzing with new and renewing ideas. Nothing wrong with renewing and re-doing after all 21st century is about recycling. So the buzz is called the “Niagara Spring Flings”. It was inniciated by Niagara on the Lake Chamber of Commerce and most of the businesses in town are participating.

The Niagara Spring Flings campaign will launch this coming Monday, April 4, with more media exposure than we have ever seen for Niagara. Magazines, newspapers, TV and radio advertisements, websites and PR initiatives all will be driving business to the Niagara region over the next two months. 1.9 million copies of a beautifully produced 8 page insert will hit the market next week, bringing Niagara’s “best bets” to the attention of potential visitors. I am so excited…. too bad I’ve missed the boat and my Historic Lyons House is not included in all that “jazz”.

Oh well, here is my own Niagara Spring Fling : From April 4 to June 4 Historic Lyons House offers a free Winery Tour with wine tastings at 4 Niagara Award Winning Wineries with any two nights accommodation. This promotion is valid on telephone bookings only. Please mention this blog.

Best Food in Niagara on the Lake

Most of the restaurants in Niagara on the Lake are open year round, but Ristorante Giardino takes a break in the winter. It has reopened on March 10th and since it missed our NOTL fabuliciouse in the first week of March, Ristorante Giardino spoiled us with its own “Italisious” special last weekend.

Ristorante is famous for its Italian dishes but quite pricy so when I heard about this special I invited my husband to join me for dinner . Tulio, the General Manager greeted us at the door and escorted us to our table. The tables were dressed in pale pink, blue, green and yellow linen table clothes. Floor to ceiling, naked windows extended a view of a still sleepy street scape. The waiter brought us a wine list and Howie selected a glass of Chianti and I a bottle of San Benedetto. The special menu was simple. Cream of broccoli soup, Roasted pork chop with herbed, ricotta gnocchi, white and green asparagus, baby spring carrots in truffle souse. For dessert we had cheese cake gelato with fresh berries, and of course espresso.

Should I now describe the taste of the food? How about, it was so yummy that Howie and I up-grated Ristorante Giardino to the “best is town.” I mean it! Come and check it out!
